The idea to start a flower farm was born through the merging of our lives. Wally's soil science background & love of organic growing, met with my passion for art/aesthetics & a yearning to work in nature, naturally gave birth to a dream. We decided to grow our own life – fill it with beauty and creativity – and share that romance with our community. The journey so far has been unpaved and bumpy, but after four years, we've made it here – married and living on our own little 5 acre farm in Forest Grove, OR. We have 2 kitties, 2 horses, 2 sheep, and the opportunity to create the life we've been dreaming of.
As a young girl, I often imagined living a secret-garden life – tucked away in an English cottage with my animals & surrounded by flowers. My favorite books were Peter Pan, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, & Harry Potter. In college I spent a semester living in London. I studied theater, and walked the city streets imagining I was a character in some novel – always guessing there was magic and mystery around the next corner. Although we don't live in Europe, Oregon is a dreamscape I find similar to England. The morning fog and misty, winter conditions give way to lush greenery, vibrant blooms, and fairytale scenery.
Looking-Glass House + Farm is a reflection of the very things that have inspired me since I was a little girl: secret cottage gardens, romantic heirloom flowers, handwritten letters, talking rabbits, & a sense of nostalgia that never seems to fade.
